Today we will travel to a given location such as Crabtree Falls and
take photographs using the film loaded from the previous day. The
shoot is planned for the entire day with a possible overnight stay off the
Virginia side of the Blue Ridge Parkway, probably in Waynesboro, Va.
We will review and practice Ansel Adam's Zone System as I use it to
achieve the look found in my photographs. Also, the concept of previsualization will be reviewed.
Today we mount and mat the photographs created on Thursday. You will
learn how to cut mats using a Logan mat cutter . You will learn
tacking and heat press mounting of your photographs using the Seal
Masterpiece heat press.
We will review materials both written and web based necessary
for the successful application to art shows.
The tools I use to create my website, my website provider, and the
process for establishing a web presence will be discussed.
Today we take our new film and create photographs in the darkroom.
We will review and mix the chemicals necessary to accomplish this
task. Techniques such as dodging and burning to achieve a final
desired result will be taught and practiced.
If necessary, we will continue this session on Friday Morning.
Depending on Tuesday's progress, we continue to shoot in the morning
hours. We head back to Danville and the studio no later than 1:00pm.
Upon return, we develop the film from the morning and previous day.
Development will include training on loading and developing the film
using the Jobo processor and canisters. The film will be left to dry
overnight.
Today we review the Durst and Bessler enlargers, the Versalab
alignment tool, the PM2A device, Jobo Processor, development tubes,
printing trays and drying screens.
We will review the Toyo 4x5 Field Camera and the Hasselblad medium
format camera.
We will load film in 4x5 film holders and medium format film. All
will be done using a film bag. Best practices will be followed to
limit dust on film, including compressor usage.
