Art in Black & White
From the Camera of G.M. Howerton
  G. M. Howerton is a multiple award winning photographer residing in Danville, Virginia. All of his images are individually created by hand using traditional darkroom methods. No digital manipulation of any kind is used.

For 25 years, Howerton pursued a career in the Corporate world. He began this career as a contracted employee working for NASA at the Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. As he moved thru his career pursuits he had the opportunity to move to New York to work at the World Trade Center, which he turned down. The last fifteen years of his corporate work was spent at the Virginia Housing Development Authority located in Richmond, Virginia.  There, he considered his greatest achievement was in leading a team of Internal staff and hand picked contracted personnel in successfully addressing the Y2K issues of the Authority. In his last position at VHDA he held the position of Assistant Director of Enterprise Management.

Three years prior to leaving VHDA to pursue photography full time, Howerton formed the company, "G.M. Howerton, LLC". His love of photography and nature coupled with his love of the road, drives Howerton to capture images of our disappearing landscape.

His work is a pursuit of technical excellence and good composition as well as an expression of soul and personal vision. Howerton goes the distance to capture the images in this website and generally there is a story which goes with each one. If you have an interest in a particular image, you may email G. M. for the background information on the image.

All of the materials used in the construction of each image are acid free and of archival standards.
Howerton's work has been referred to as environmental isolationism, absent of the daily presence of humanity. He prefers to consider his approach to photography as a search for escape from the day to day excess. In his photographs he seeks to define solitude, peace, and drama.

We hope you enjoy viewing representations of his work on this website. We hope you have the opportunity of seeing his work in person.
